Update 9/15/23

  • Added a new mirror cover holder with a slot for an eyepiece cover
  • Added step files for the new accessories
  • Added compatible mirror covers and a removable collimation ring with a pull tab

Collimation Ring Printing and Assembly:

  1. Print the ring with the flat side on the print bed.
  2. Print the pull tab with the rectangle side on the print bed.
  3. Super glue the first layer sides of the two parts together over the “finger guard” section of the collimator ring.  Refer to photos if my wording confused you.
  4. Now you can grab the pull tab with your fingers and place it over your primary mirror.
  5. once done, place the collimator ring in the holder for storage while using the scope

Original Post: 3/10/23

I am in the process of learning CAD modeling using Fusion 360.  To challenge myself, I used calipers to manually reverse-engineer several printed mods and accessories for the Hadley Telescope while simultaneously converting them to support metric heat-set hardware for my build of Hadley's metric variant.

Depending on what you want your build to look like and how you want it to handle, you do not need to print all the tripod mount styles and/or accessory ring styles.  I just included a couple different functional/aestheic alternates so you can give your Hadley the looks and feel that you prefer.

All of my models here are designed for the use of M4 heat-set inserts, 12mm rods, and M4 hardware; however the arca-swiss adapter bar uses three ¼"-20 heat sets to securely mount the hardware.  I designed this to take M4x6mm heat set inserts the same way Marci did, however, I personally used M4x8mm heat sets in my build with no issue. I'm sure you could get away with using M4x4mm heat sets in a pinch as well.  If you are coming from Marci's M4 heat insert remix, you do not need any heat set inserts for the Bearing_right and Bearing_left files.  Just put an M4 bolt through the holes in the bearing and screw it into the heat set inserts on the printed mount of your choice from here.

I used the same 200mm long Arca Swiss mount that smdollins used in their mounting system, which is this one.

The Acessory Rings A, B, and C have the same holes and spacing as the original metric hadley rockers, minus the middle holes.  All the accessories are interchangeable and can attach to these rings as well as the Full Tripod Mount.

Referring to my pics of the eyepiece holders, I just printed a few extra M4 adjustment knobs for the secondary mirror and repurposed them as thumbscrews for the eyepiece holders.

Let me know if there are any additional accessories that you'd like me to make.  I will not be making an imperial version of this, hence why I've included the STEP files in case you really insist on using freedom units.
