Description
This dishwasher sign is thin enough to stick on the side of my dishwasher, even when closed. To assemble it, print the two pieces and snap the cover onto the letters. The cover is thin enough it should be able to bend. Be sure to put the bump end of the letters with the bump end of the cover.
The sign sticks to the dishwasher using 5x10x2mm magnets that I bought on Amazon. There are spots for 11 magnets, but you could probably get away with fewer. You'll need to pause the print (I used an M600 gcode) at the last layer before the magnet holes are filled and drop the magnets in place on the printer before resuming.
To make the letters visible, you can either M600 the last layer of the letters and paint the top layer the resume, or you can change filament. I wanted my base to be black, so I put an M600 for the magnets, an M600 before the last letter layer when I changed to white, and then another M600 on the next layer to change back to black. As you can see, there was a lot of black filament in the nozzle still so I got very dark grey letters, which I like even though it was an accident.
Finally, I printed at 0.1mm layer height in order to make the first layer as thin as possible to minimize the amount of material under the magnets.
I've included the original scad file (must have BOSL2 library installed). It shouldn't be too hard to change the holes to fit a different magnet size or change other dimensions.
