Description
When I saw this contest, I had an idea to make an adapter with a ballerina on top like you see in music boxes in old movies. I went looking for a model of a ballerina to use and came across one that was designed to be a knob for an extruder motor. Then it hit me, why design something so limited. Record may be old school but in every age people liked to express their individuality and mix things up once in a while. That is when I decided to design this adapter which allows you to mount extruder motor knobs on top off it. After all, there are already thousands of those designs and more are being made all the time. Even when this contest is over people will still be making new extruder motor knobs.
I did run into a problem and was unable to find an answer. How tall is the spindle in the center of the turn table. Turns out it varies and some are actually quite tall. that is why there are three models. One is an adapter with a shaft and it is for use with short spindles. The other two models are intended to be used together. One model acts as an adapter and has a hole all the way through it and the other acts as a topper for the spindle allowing you to mount various extruder knobs.
I have also included a parametric fusion 360 file. It has plenty of parameters driving all of the critical aspects of the design. You can use my file to adjust the models to fit your needs. Also, I know this design contest said outside dimension of 1.5inches and inside dimension of .25inches but in my google searching I discovered that many record players seem to use a slightly larger spindle. So that is one of the things you can modify about the design. My included STL files are for 1.5inches with a .25" center hole.
If you don't have fusion360 but would like a change to the design please feel free to message me. I don't mind making revisions and posting them for you.
This may sound strange but I recommend printing out of TPU95a with 3 walls and 90% infill. The reason for this is, the shaft part the allows you to connect extruder knobs is small and will be rather fragile. But TPU is actually really strong in terms of layers staying together. And with 90% infill it will me more than stiff enough to work for the record center.
If you would rather not print in TPU then my only suggestion is to not try and force and extruder knob onto the shaft. If need be, either edit my model to have a smaller shaft or sand the shaft down a little so that is fit snug but not tight.
