Description
If you're like me and have been accumulating loose extra tools in this kit that fall out when it's opened, then this magnetic extension tray can be stuffed with that excess and more.
The top of this tray is made with a small lip that keeps the bottom of the iFixit tray from slipping off once fitted. Multiple extensions can also be stacked.
Requires at four 6x6mm cylinder magnets to work, but shallower ones could also be used. Additionally four 6x2mm cylinder magnets or four M3 screws can be added on the base.
This tray is designed to have the iFixit lid attached underneath in the same way as the original tray, but it will not stack over the iFixit tray, which always has to be on top.
I used N52 neodymium magnets in my build that are quite strong - you may be able to get away with a lower grade but the lid may not stay on so strongly.
The best way to open is to slide the top tray away rather than pull.
If you are using shallower magnets on the top, and push one in too far, then they can be pushed back up with a rod through the centre holes.
Not a parametric design, but the tray depth can be adjusted using the included "iFixit Essentials Extension Tray_custom-height".3mf" file. Works with PrusaSlicer and its variants. Scale the middle section on the Y axis and make sure the top and bottom parts touch it and are not overlapping.
It could be easily remixed to add dividers, etc. as well.
