Description

Its a good day fellow Sim Racers.

I decided to share the current state of my version from Noctiluxx's H-pattern Shifter. I developed this thing last year for myself and its in a working state, but its far from perfect. But my time is scarce and i plan to make a new one with metal, so i dont see myself developing this much further.

The design from Noctiluxx was used as a base reference, but apart from the center piece thats holding the bearings for the tactility, every single piece is a complete remodel.

My goal with this was to have a Fanatec ClubSport-like shifter, which can quickly change between a 7+R H-Pattern and a sequential mode. To achieve this i used door snapper for furniture, which worked surprisingly well. So now you can just lift the two handles on the sides up to engage sequentiel mode and when the plate is down you have a 7+R H-Pattern shifter.

I couldn't use the same uniball joint as he did for the pivot point, because the base is wider than the original, so i took a uniball joint from a kart steering column instead. There could be other, simpler and better solutions for this, but it worked for me.

Thing is, i had to work out another way to self-center the shifter. So i tried 4 little springs on the center piece, but they were not strong enough support the shifting rod due to the high center of mass.

I had to add 2 more torsion spings on the outside, which had an immense impact on the self centering action, but this resulted in this wierd Fiat Multipla thingy, which has to be attached to either side of the center piece.

You'll need an aluminium rod with 8mm outer diameter and 6mm inner diameter. These are used for the sliding mechanism at the sequential plate and to reinforce the srew-in adapter.

The center spring is preloaded to 38mm, which resulted in a very pleasent but firm tacile feedback imo.

The USB Joystick board was supposed to be clipped in at the base, but the clips break fairly easy, so i used some hot glue to secure the board.

I haven't printed the top plate of the Housing, so i cant guarentee that the opening is large enough.

All in all it is very large, but it can take quite a beating. You dont have to worry about breaking anything while shifting. :)

You can connect this thing via a detatchable USB-C cable.

Here's what you'll need (i hope i dont forget anything as i build that almost a year ago):

Uniball Joint M8: https://www.ebay.de/itm/332491281506

Limit Switches: https://www.ebay.de/itm/174416254645

USB-C Breakout Board: https://www.ebay.de/itm/353151668332

USB-F10 Joystick Board: https://www.ebay.de/itm/114504678697

Door-Snapper: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07JW2GTHN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Torsion Spring (2x): https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B06XW7KZ35/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

8mm*28mm extension spring: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0081MVXD2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

688 bearings (2x)

625 bearings (2x)

M2.5 x 10 for the limit switches

M3 threaded inserts

M3 screws and nuts

M5 screws and nuts

M6 nuts (used for mounting)

M8 threaded rod

M8 screw

M8 lock nuts

hot glue (for USB-F10 and USB-C Breakout Board)

50mm x 15mm x 1,5mm compression spring

shift handle

I think i overengineered this a bit, cause i think there is a way simpler solution to get the same, but it was a ton of work and a little support would be appreciated.

Feel free to ask anything if you have problems with assembly. I'm sure i forgot something to mention.

Good Luck :)

14.09.2021: I uploaded an improved version of the center_piece. There is now more material surrounding the bearings, because it seemed to be a weak point at the previous version.

I printed the the legs with 100% inflill and the rest with 40%.

Notes:

Center piece was a pain to print. Supports with tree-structure worked best for me there.
