Heltec LoRa32 Minimal Case

I was looking for a minimal case for the Heltec LoRa 32 module. The cases I found either also offered room for a LiPo and a power switch, were not designed for the new solid LoRa antenna, or the module just did not fit properly. So I decided to create my own case. This is the result. 🙂

Bill of Materials

• This print, of course
• Heltec LoRa 32 module (with solid antenna)
• 4x Socket Head Screws M2.5 x 10
• Optional: 4x Inserts M2.5 (length 5.7mm)

Printing

I used PLA, but you can use basically any standard material. However I recommend not to use metallic filament, as it might interfere with the internal WiFi/BT antenna. If you intend to use inserts, make sure to chose a suitable material.

I printed with a resolution of 0.2mm, without rafts and without supports.

If you use inserts, just use very little force when pressing them into the respective openings. The walls are delicate, and if you apply too much force, they might bulge and look ugly. Generally I recommend not to use inserts, unless you know that you are going to open the case frequently.

Assembly

• Melt the four inserts into the bottom part (if applicable).
• Connect the antenna cable to the Heltec module.
• Put the Heltec module into the bottom part.
• Prepare the antenna cable, but do not mount it tightly yet.
• Don't forget to remove the protective film from the OLED display. 😉
• Put the top lid onto the bottom part. Be very careful: the internal WiFi/BT antenna and the OLED easily break if too much force is applied.
• Use the screws to close the case.
• Now screw the antenna connector tightly to the case.

Alternate Versions

This project offers a small choice of top and bottom parts:

• Standard bottom part (no inserts)
• Bottom part that requires M2.5 inserts
• Standard top part
• Top part with additional opening for the WiFi/BT antenna
• Top part without OLED window (in case you broke or don't need the OLED)
• Top part without any openings (no OLED, no buttons, no WiFi/BT antenna)

There is also a clip for wall-mounting the device.

Disclaimer

As mentioned above, the internal WiFi/BT antenna and the OLED easily break. I am not liable for damages caused by using this case. If you want to be on the safe side, there is also a version with an open WiFi/BT antenna available.
