The design was intended to be used for an Apple USB-C power brick with a 6ft braided cable to wrap the cord and clip into the slots at the base. This neatly and securely packs the assembly for storage or travel. Any shorter power cord would be compatible, and potentially compatible with a 10ft cable.
During use, I have not seen any excessive heating for the power brick.
