Adapter for Festool Lex Sander

This is an adapter that allows to use a Festool pneumatic Lex sander with standards air and vacuum cleaner hoses.

The Festool hoses for these tools seem quite neat (they are actually three concentric hoses in one, but they are very (very very) expensive. This adapter allows to use ordinary hoses.

You need at least a male air hose fitting whoseinternal diameter is close to the size of the metal nipple on the sander (~8mm). I found it easier to take one with a smaller size and to enlarge it. I used an inexpensive one sold as a 1/4" male on the threaded side, but other could work too (the thread is not used).

Depending on what you prefer, you can either use a muffler on the air exhaust (pictured - with the risk of some oil mist contaminating what you are sanding, or put another hose fitting to divert the air back to a safe distance. In both case, they should be 1/4" NPT or G 1/4 (or any close size), and you will need the corresponding tap to install them.

NB: I have used this with a Lex 2 sander. I have not tried with the current Lex 3 sanders.

Post-Printing =============

After printing, remove the supports, then you have to tap the air exhaust hole for the muffler (or fitting) and add the air ingress fitting (no tapping, it is just held between the printed part and the sander.

If there is an air leak between the ingress fitting and the sander, you can try to add a drop of neoprene glue around the sander's nipple (neoprene glue can be easily removed if needed).
