Description

This is a remix of ThierryM's dust shoe: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:943963

The motivation for this remix is that when installing a Kress spindle on my Shapeoko XXL, I used a 20mm thick mounting block (https://www.damencnc.com/products/milling-motors/kress/kress-accessories/kress-mounting-block-v2-0-80x80x20mm/_404_w_42_678_GB_1 ).

This thickness is very good for rigidity, but prevents from mounting directly a dust shoe on the spindle's collar. However, the mounting block provides four threaded (M6) holes that can be used to mount a dust shoe.

This dust shoe is bigger than ThierryM's, and, like his, uses magnets to attach the "sole" to the shoe. The vacuum cleaner connector is not provided here, the design is made to use ThierryM's one and you have to print it from the files he provides.

This should be usable with most spindle / milling motors that can be mounted on the mounting block indicated above: Kress 800 FME, Kress 1050 FME, Mafell FM 800, Mafell FM 1000, ...

Notes:

Using soluble supports may enhance the aspects of some parts, but is not otherwise needed.

Post-Printing

Glue the magnets

Just a reminder: you need to glue the magnets, but you have to check their orientation for compatibility between shoe and sole.

Add the brush

I extracted the brush from a door sweep and glued it in place. A glue that expands (Gorilla glue for instance) works well.

Note that it could be useful to have multiple soles, with different lengths of brush. It would allow for instance to swap a longer brush when using longer tools, etc.

How I Designed This

A few remarks & things you may want to change (or that I may change in a future version).

I had issues editing ThierryM's plans (Freecad seems buggy with Linux) so I used OpenScad to redo the thing.

The scad files are provided, so you can modify them.

A few notes:

I'm using M3x30 screws to attach the vacuum cleaner to the show. The heads of the screws are protruding on the bottom of the shoe. It would be better to have them recessed, but as I had already printed the shoe by then, I choose to add holes for them in the sole. By the way, you should probably put some thread-locker on them.

Likewise for the M6 mounting bolts, however due to the size of the heads, it would probably be hard to recess them fully into the shoe itself.

After trying the magnets on the shoe, I noticed they were a bit too recessed, so I designed the sole to have them protruding a little bit to compensate: you may want to change this too.
