Description
I'm rebuilding an old RC plane with new motor and prop and ran into an issue with tightening the prop down. My plane has a cowling that makes it difficult to hold the motor while tightening the prop and it took a significant amount of torque to prevent the prop from slipping. I decided to design and print a washer that could be used to grip the prop and it turned out great!
I can tighten the prop nut just by holding the propeller, not the motor. I'm able to secure the prop with a lot less torque as well. For added safety, I also used some blue thread lock.
Maybe this will help with your slippery prop situation? :)
Let me know if you have a specific size washer you are looking for and I can customize it for you. Specify: outer diameter, thickness, clockwise or counter clockwise serrations, and through hole size.
You can also use the attached Fusion 360 or STEP file to customize on your own.
Print Settings:
I printed with SainSmart TPU at 0.1mm layer height and 0.42mm line width. You can try different line widths in your slicer to see how the serrations look before printing. You may have to set your slicer resolution to a smaller value, which increases resolution of the print details. I used two walls and a concentric top pattern. For the small washer, print at 100% infill, for the hex version I used 20%. The hex version can also benefit from supports.
