Description
It is now proven that the smaller the hole, the less the maple tree suffer from it. To do a traditional maple sap harvest by using a bucket, the smallest spout I could find on the market requires a 5/16'' (7.9 mm) hole. This new spout only requires a 3/16'' or 7/32'' (5.5 mm) hole in the tree (1.75'' or 45 mm deep max).
A special hole is provided to hold a standard lid and you must insert a small piece of 1/4 PEX pipe to bring the sap to the bucket. Finally, you must also create a hook with wire to hold the bucket. The pictures will help you set this up.
Finally, I recommend using PETG and not using the spout more than one season because it will be difficult to clean.
Have a good harvesting!
