This is a two-tone, color changing, crystalline dice vault! 3D modeled from scratch with many angles to catch the light and really showcase the beautiful dual-color Matter Hacker Quantum color changing filament! It also has a neat vectorized dice top logo!
This dice vault comes equipped with magnets and space for foam inserts to keep your dice safe! The foam inserts are removable and the vault is thick enough to even store a miniature along with your dice!
Bill of Materials: (You can still use the box without these if you like)
Print settings:
- Print using your normal PLA Silk Profile - <100mm/s perimeters recommended for the best “shine”
- Use Concentric for Top & Bottom layers
- 2 perimeters
- 10-15% infill is fine
- No supports
Tips:
- If you're having trouble printing the vectorized dice logo on the top due to the small lines, try Arachne in Prusa Slicer. I noticed it was also affected by some settings like “Initial horizontal expansion” and “horizontal hole compensation”. This is likely only an issue with larger nozzle diameters (0.6mm and up). FWIW I've only encountered this issue in cura.
- I included some jigs to make cutting the foam inserts a little easier
- It may take some trial and error getting the color patterns to line up, see below.
- I really like E6000 as an adhesive, cyanoacrylate (super glue) will discolor PLA over time, and is pretty bad for magnet→plastic adhesion. E6000 is more rubbery and holds really well, only downside is that it has a 24 hour cure time.
*Important*
If you are having difficulty aligning the Top/Bottom color patterns:
- Print the Matter Hacker's calibration coin to determine your offset angle for printing, in my case I usually have to print the top or bottom rotated ~40 degrees Clockwise or Counterclockwise (different for each spool).
- Printing as complete single objects, rather than both at the same time by-layer will also improve the quality of the layer/color transition.
