Description

This is an OpenSCAD program to generate miniature gaming bases of various sizes. It supports rounded, rectangular and hexagonal bases, and optional slots, magnet holes and lips. Almost everything can be configured and tweaked, but as always with OpenSCAD, you can no doubt break things if you really want to.

Slots and magnet holes can absolutely coexist, but it's up to you to make sure they don't overlap (using the offsets). Magnet holes are configured by default for 6x3mm magnets; if you want thicker magnets for some reason, you will need to increase the base height accordingly, otherwise the hole will not be deep enough.

This is a heavily modified version of MysteryDough's original design. Highlights include:

  • parameters have been cleaned up, improved, and reorganized
  • new parameters have been added for extra flexibility
  • some bugs/issues were fixed
  • support was added for magnet holes and filled bases
  • lip height is separate from the base height
  • lips can be as high as you want (have fun)

Bases without lips should be printed top-down; bases with lips should be printed top-up and should have a filled underside if you don't want to enable supports. Note that when bases are printed top-up, magnet holes will become bridges, so they might need some cleanup before they can be used. To minimize plastic, make sure to print filled bases with infill and lower the number of bottom layers to maximize the effect. You can even set them to zero if you don't mind seeing the innards of the base.

Bases should print fine with normal settings of 0.2mm layer height and 0.4mm walls using a 0.4mm nozzle. All the default widths and thicknesses are multiples of these values for optimal results with these settings.
