Description
Picked up a set of the Govee RGBIC permanent outdoor lights but I'm not a big fan of the idea of using the adhesive. Partially because I don't want any residue to clean up in the future should these lights fail or loose their appeal and partially because I see a strong possibility of the adhesive failing after some months/years.
I'm uploading a couple different setups. One just goes on each light itself and then you may need to do something for the cord. The other setup covers both the light and the cord. The latter is something I decided to make after realizing I wanted to hide the white wiring as much as possible since our roof, trim and gutters are all black. So the second setup uses three pieces to cover a light and then the wiring between lights. You can now pick a color to color match your home better.
For the first setup, I've included a .step file so that you can alter magnet size/layout if need be and they may be undersized to hold things properly. The second setup I have a bit more faith in and the limited testing seems very positive.
Magnets used are 3x6mm neodymium magnets.
I'm currently printing the parts needed to install my lights, so I can't say 100% that issues won't arise. If you choose to use any of these, please let me know if you run into any issues or have any other useful feedback.
04/03/23 - already found some things I’m going to do differently after taking some parts out and seeing how they work for my soffit. Will be redesigning the single light mount to include 4 magnets and then making some small magnetic clips to hold the wire in place. Rather than covering the wire as I thought I would, I’ll likely just hit it with some flat black spray paint. I’ll leave everything already uploaded there incase it works for someone else’s needs.
10/05/23 - added a option to use a couple screws for securing mounts for those that magnets are of no use. Let me know if there are issues, I haven't test fitted it in regards to the screws, so the allowances for said screws may need tweaked.
NOTE ON ORIENTATION - the most recent versions are designed to be printed face down (what would be the top of the light) on the build plate with no supports needed.
