Description

These templates will fit perfectly onto the uncut headstock so you can mark the line to cut. If you print two templates, mirrored in the Z axis, you can mark it from both sides. That should give you a reference to cut and sand at a right angle.

I used only the first template to cut my headstock, but I provide 3 different designs. With the original FreeCAD file or the STEP files, you can also modify it to your taste.

Instructions:

Download the model you want; template001, template002 or template003 will give you the results on the next image from left to right:

Place the template over the headstock and mark it:

It is recommended to print the template twice, the second one mirrored on the Z axis and also mark the headstock from the back, that will give you a reference from each side:

Rough cut without crossing the line (unlike me):

Sand, sand, sand! Start with higher grit sandpaper and an orbital sander if you have, finish with smooth sandpaper, maybe by hand:

And finally, apply finish for sealing to the wood. If you are not sure you can match the existing finish, maybe you need to sand the whole neck… or don't apply any!

If you want a different shape, you can use the FreeCAD or STEP models to modify to your liking. You an also leave a comment it if you don't know how to modify them and include a picture of what you want, but I can't guarantee a fast reply… or a 100% accurate model
