Description

Meet Constant.

With his arms outstretched, he clamps your favorite books. One more book? No problem, slide a new book in the middle and he stretches his arms even further.

He likes books with a height between 19 and 23 cm (7.5" - 9"). For a good grip, place the highest books near his hands. He doesn't like anything higher because then he can no longer peek over the books. He likes to be seen, so don't stuff him away on a bookshelf (min. 11"/28cm), but give him a place to show off his powers. By your side at your favorite reading spot will be a nice place…

Tense as he must be for his task, there is still some flexibility:

  • You can e.g. stretch (not shorten!) his arms a bit making room for even more books. Scale only in the longitudinal direction and all applicable parts equally, the Body Arm Bar and both Left and Right Arm!
  • Shorten or lengthen his legs for higher or lower books. Scale again only in the longitudinal direction!. (When scaling too much, it is possible that his pants are falling down a bit or his socks are showing up..)

Printing:

The body consists of 8 different parts. The clamp block you need 2x.

Make sure that the parts that will be subject to greater stress (the Body Arm Bar, both Arms and the connection at the Groundplate) are printed with at least 30% infill and 3 perimeters. The bridges have been kept short so that no problems should arise there either. All files are presented in the correct print position.

Only the parts with the connection pins needs a little support on the buildplate only. The rest can be printed without support.

Assembly:

The clamping function of the arms is created by 2 elastic bands. I used TPU Filament for this (no printing involved), but you can also use a normal elastic band (max Ø or square 1.75mm).

There are square holes of 1.8 mm in both end of the arms and in the 2 separate clamping blocks, with a chamber of square 3.4 mm behind them. Push the elastic(s) or TPU filament (1.75mm) through the small hole and make a good tight knot in it. Cut off the rest at 2-3mm and pull them back so that the knot disappears into the room. First attach the elastic/TPU to both Arms and then feed them through the Body Arm Bar. Then tighten both clamping blocks and secure them in the appropriate chambers under the Body Arm Bar (make sure they are mounted with pre-tension).

* To easily assemble the elastic/TPU, use a length of 18-20 cm each. This makes it easy to tie the necessary knots.

After that, glue all parts together. When you glue the Groundplate, make sure you push the groundplate gentle upwards (or Constant gently forward) when curing. This makes him lean in slightly towards the books so that he can perform his task properly.

Smiley Faces:

Constant is faceless. A set of 10 smiley faces has been added. These can be printed separately and glued / attached to the face with double sided tape. Or they can be added in the slicer to be used as an extra layer on top of the original face. Versions without borders are also added.
