Description

This is a posting for only the epicyclic gear at the top of my kinetic artwork featured in the cover photo. The larger piece will have it's own posting (eventually) and will credit the maker of the Seiko Ratchet mechanism which I remixed. 

I left 0.3mm tolerances between each printed in place component. The printed screws thread in with 0.1mm tolerance. 

Print 3 of the ‘15z Gear w_screw’ and 1 of each of the other components.

Print settings

  • Recommended to print slow and cool (60mm/s @ 198 degrees, PLA)
  • 0.2 (or smaller) layer height


Gear references

  • Module - 1.5mm
  • Pressure Angle: 14.5 degrees
  • Height - 6mm 
  • Smaller gears are 15z
  • Larger gear is 30z

 

Assembly

  • Align the 3 prongs from the ‘Gear Base’ to the slots on the ‘Cyclic Handle’ and press in. These are press fit with 0.1mm tolerance. If needed, trim or sand the prongs until they press into their slots. 
     
  • Connect the ‘Gear Base’, ‘Cyclic Handle’, and larger 30z gear with an M3 bolt (30mm or longer). 
     
  • Screw the ‘15z Gear w_screw’ into their slots on the Cyclic Handle.
