Description
Use the Skadis T-nut to mount different accessories to the IKEA Skådis board. The accessory will be firmly attached to the board and will not come loose when used, as can happen with conventional hooks.
Is the threaded T-nut strong enough?
I've had a weight of almost 5kg (10.5 lb) hanging from a screw in a vertically mounted T-nut for a month, and it hasn't broken or deformed at all, which is actually strong enough for a threaded T-nut made of PLA.
The models have printed threads, which means you do not need threading tools or nuts, which is an advantage over other T-nut variants. The T-nut is available for two different screws, one for M3 screws and the other for UNC #5-40 screws.
Depending on the thickness of the accessory, the length of the screw will be between 12 mm and 20 mm, in most cases 15mm should be a good choice.
Place the screw in the T-nut through the holes in the accessory and screw it in until the T-nut is about 2-3 mm from the back of the accessory, insert the T-nuts vertically through the Skadis holes, then as you tighten the screw the T-nut will turn and lock the accessory to the board.
In the model files, the parts are orientated in the direction best suited for printing. Use e.g. PLA and it will need to be printed with a layer height of 0.12mm in order for the thread to be usable, a nozzle width of 0.4 mm or less and an infill of 100 % to make it solid. No support structure are required for the printing. This works well for me and it is easy to screw in the screw after printing without any post-processing.
