Halloween Pumpkin (Jack 'O Lantern) - Wifi controllable - ESP8266 / WS2812 led ring

Based on the incredible nice looking Jack O Lantern I remixed a version that changes the 3 original LED's for a fully wifi controllable battery powered version with WS2812 LED's. The led's change brightness/are flickering like a candle (you can choose from 30+ patterns).

Main features

• WS2812 LED's (ring of 8)
• ESP8266 (Wemos D1 mini)

• Micro-USB rechargeable (Adafruit 1000C)

I only changed the lid, the bottom is unchanged. To be able to house the battery and power booster of this size I widened and thickened the bottom part of the lid and the opening in the top part. For this to work I remove half of the stem.

I used a Adafruit 1000C power booster which can power the LED's and charge the battery at the time. You can also control the board using the enable pin (although the button is inverted - depressed = on). But you can use any booster you like or just directly power the Wemos D1 Mini.

For creating the patterns of the LED's and being able to control it with wifi I used this great project on github: https://github.com/FabLab-Luenen/McLighting
It has a built in wifi manager, responsive interface, support for so many types of LED's, you could even create multiple strings.

Parts used

• Wemos D1 mini (without pins)
• Adafruit 1000C - but you could use just about all powerboosters you like
• 18650 battery - not necessary if you don't mind a visible usb cable
• Ring with 8 5050 WS2812 LED's
• Simple power-button

Print instructions

Print all parts anyway you like.

Supports are not needed, but could be usefull for the top part. The span is quite large, but since you won't see the inside I didn't use supports.

After printing you need to glue the stem to the top part.
