Description

This is a mod for the IKEA Jansjö LED USB Lamp

Following things are needed:

  • Ikea Jansjö USB Lamp
  • 2x 851542/801640 LiIon batteries out of disposable Vapes
  • USBC TP4056 BMS
  • Miniature slideswitch
  • 1x 20mmx3mm round magnet
  • 2x M3x6mm countersunk screw
  • 1x M3x10mm countersunk screw

After printing, check the print and cut the threads in the corresponding bores. Insert the cable in the small hole and pull it back up after you fiddled it trough the wall. This can be a bit tricky. Solder both cables to the corresponding pins of the switch and shorten the switch to around 14mm and place the switch in the base. Put the M3x6 in to prevent the switch from falling out.

Tape and solder both batteries together and place them in the base with a bit of hotglue.

Now the trickiest part of this whole ordeal, to cut the USB connector of the lamp, take a sharp cutter and cut all 4 sides of the plastic overmolding and break them away with a screwdriver, break open the strainrelief and pull hard on the USB connector now you can expose both wires of the lamp.

Slide the lamp trough the 4mm hole, take the USBC BMS and solder the cables to the corresponding pins. Glue the bms in place and place the magnet in the base.

Use both remaining screws to fix the lamp in place.

Depending on the quality of your magnet the versatility of the base may vary.
