Description
I designed this part to help diffuse the light on a new jewel faceplate I ordered online. The goal was to light the faceplate more evenly than the LED strips I have seen in the past. Additionally I wanted to use the existing LED on the motherboard to try and keep the inside of the console as clean as possible.
To do this you will need to desolder the old LED first. Then install a new one without bending the metal legs which will allow it to sit inside the console about an inch (25mm) higher placing it directly behind the faceplate. I chose a blue/purple color to match my system but you can choose any color LED you like here. Both 5mm and 8mm work well.
There is a great video from Modbot explaining how this is done here:
DISCLAIMER: My insert simply snaps in place but before that you will need to cut or dremel out some of the plastic support on your console. I'm not liable for any damage you cause to your system in the process. Take it slowly here as it's much harder to add material than remove it. What I did was cut and grind away and continually try and test fit my piece until it snapped in place firmly. I might try and make some sort of guide in the future here to help with this, but in the meantime the insert is inset about 3.5mm from the inner edge once you remove the factory faceplate.
Also do note you will need to print with the large face facing down as shown in my slicer screenshot, and and this will need to be a clear resin or filament.
I hope you like it and let me know if you have any questions!
