Description
I wanted a way to keep my phone in front of me while working on a laptop so that I could easily read from it without having to constantly move my head around. (Ergonomics!) I didn't want to stick anything to my laptop, take my phone out of it's case or block the camera.
This is a quick and dirty model that should work for most phones and can be scaled down a small amount if needed. If you scale it too small the arms get too thin. There was no science here - this was simply a “this should work” model.
It's not going to hold up to a lot of bouncing around with your phone in portrait orientation, but handles my large phone and heavy handed typing just fine. The “slot” in the upper part is wide enough to hold a PopSocket for some added security.
Biggest limiting factor is your laptop hinge. I've tried to keep the center of gravity as vertical as possible without the phone tipping forward, but it will still pull a weak hinge backwards.
Your mileage may vary…use with caution so you don't drop your phone or damage your laptop. It works for me, but I'm not responsible if you cause any damage to your equipment. :)
