Description

Note: This is a work in progress only for the firmware part: I had some problem having repetier firmware using this probe on z-max connector, and does not had enough time yet to look a it. But it's ok, for the mechanical part (printing part, assembling and testing).

This is a manual z-probe holder. "Manual" mean you have to clip the probe yourself before lauching an auto z leveling, and then remove it before printing.

This probe is not made to be used at the begining of each print to make a z home. It's for lauching a plate probe leveling for time to time, by mesearing 9 to 15 point on the bed. As a bed plate is never 100% plane, each point may have a slightly z difference, the firmware will compute from them a mesh representation of the bed (with this hollows and bumps), and use it during the print to compensate by moving slightly the z axis (using the z motors).

There is to parts:

  • z-probe_fixer.stl is fix for good on the x carriage, using the same screw used for the X endstop. You just have to use a bit longer M2.5 screw
  • z-probe_holder.stl is the moving part. It can be cliped on the probe_fixer before launching the auto mesh probe procedure, and removed after. A microswitch (the same as use for x/y/z endstops) have to be screwed on this part, and connected to the RAMPS (the z max endstop).

From my first tests, the offset of the probe from the nozzle are:

  • x: -10
  • y: 10
  • z: 2.9
