Description
I wanted a fan to suck away the bad fumes when I was soldering, I also wanted USB C & for it to go into a case the same size as my TS101.
This is the end result. It works well at 15cm or so from the soldering work.
Hardware needed:
The electrical aspects are pretty straight forward, power comes from the PD module, the fan & LED go in parallel.
I've included some exploded CAD diagrams to show the assembly plan.
When adding the screws to the support arm I added a small amount of epoxy to the knurling on the heads, this way the screws can remain locked in place & arm tension only needs to be adjusted via the wing nuts. I also epoxied all of my magnets into place.
If you don't have an MMU/AMS to print the LED window like in the renders/photos then there is a no MMU version of the filter's main body with a hole for a 5mm LED.
The design includes a cutting stencil to make it easier to cut your carbon filter foam to size.
If I were making this again I'd use a 9v decoy & a small boost converter, this way any USB C power supply could work. There is enough room in the case to fit one of many small boosters, at the time I decided that since all my USB batteries do 12V I really didn't need to bother & used what I had on hand.
As always, I've included a STEP file for anyone that wants to use some elements of this to make something better suited to their needs.
