Description

You may have come across my other 1:12 scale models for my solar shed project - I'm building a real shed & a 1:12 scale model of it. The real shed will contain a 12kW and 8kW solar charger inverter and two 32-cell LFP battery arrays. One set is based on 280Ah and the other 200Ah batteries, respectively 28.672 kWh and 20.48 kWh. It will house a couple of EV chargers, completely off-grid.

I'm thinking I might make the 1:12 scale model into a solar charge station for USB devices…

I experimented with using IdeaMaker to apply a texture from a photograph of woodgrain to  a simple rectangular model (which renders to G-Code), then using Voxelizer to convert that back to an STL file.

The texture used is from an actual photo of the product with 6 “planks”. I sliced the model using variable layer height in Bambu Studio so it will print the boring parts fast and preserve detail.

See my other 1:12 models for the inverters and batteries. The shed and lumber panels are coming soon!

update : Just wanted to mention a useful tip: PLA can be scored & snapped to easily make these in whatever (smaller) size you need. You can use a a micrometer to mark the scaled distance then drag a utility knife along a straight edge on the smooth side a few times (the blade tends to follow the first groove quite nicely in PLA), then bend backwards (opening the score mark so it cleaves neatly on the line). Flex it back and forth a bit before the final snap. It's kinda like sawing plywood sheets… and exactly like making straight cuts in drywall or cement board. I prefer 220 grit sandpaper to clean the edges. Print more than one sheet so you can use one of the sheets as a square edge to score the other with.
