Description
Welcome to the new home of your squirrels.
Your squirrels (and some smaller birds) will love it! They can eat without being distracted by others. We had the problem of pigeons eating all seeds which were for the squirrels and making a big mess, while in the night, mice went on a mission and stealing all nuts of the squirrels. With this mansion only squirrels and smaller birds can enter and get to the seeds and nuts.
Please refer to the attached 3mf file for print orientation and supports. I tried to need as little supports as possible, but because of decoration holes and the ladder it is needed. Please also note that the supports on the doors for the locking mechanism are very important.
PETG is recommended to withstand sunlight and scratches of the squirrels.
I printed mine on default settings (0.4 nozzle with 0.2 layer height). For the transparent PETG to be as transparent as possible, but still stable enough, I used 2 bottom layers, 2 top layers, 2 walls and 10% grid infill.
Please ensure that you clean up sharp edges after printing so the squirrels don't hurt themselves.
Please refer to the images for the final look.
Before screwing together the two top parts, put one of the lock pieces into the middle space. This will be locking the doors on the top side.
The other two lock pieces go into the doors on the side. After that push them down so the holes of the door and the holes of the lock pieces match. Because of the needed support it can be too tight, so clean up the support as best as you can.
Insert the M3 threaded inserts into the vertical holes of the two top parts (this way we didn't need support there). For the rest of the holes use a fitting screw together with a nut. Same for the door hinges.
After putting everything together and mounting it to the wall, you can fill the seed tower with sunflower seeds and secure it to the back right corner so the squirrels don't knock it over. Lay down nuts and other sweets on the rest of the floor.
Optionally you can add flower bricks (f.e. LEGO 24855 together with some 24866) to the flower box of the front window
