Description
This bracket is for computer cases that may have some extra room at the top or bottom 5.25" bay. It takes (1.5) 5.25" drive bays and converts it into a (2) 3.5" hard disk mount.
You need 2 of these to mount the drives. One on each side.
Mounting hardware required:
8 Hard drive screws - 6-32 x 1-inch flathead
4 Optical mount screws - M3 x 6mm
4 Optical mount nuts - M3 (5.5mm flat-to-flat)
I ran out of physical disk space in my NAS, so I wanted to see if I could utilize the 5.25" bay to get two more disks in the enclosure, along with an SSD for a cache drive. I noticed in my Lian Li PC-Q08 that the 5.25" bay had quite a bit of room above it. By design, the PC-Q08 has an SSD mount at the bottom of the 5.25" bay, so I just needed to model an adapter to fit 2 more 3.5" drives in it.
I'm sure there are other cases that have empty space above or below the 5.25" bays, so I wanted to make this model available for anyone that has a similar need. I have modeled it so that the max height standard 3.5 disks will fit at 26.1mm. I have also allowed about a 4-5mm air gap between the drives for fan ventilation with max height drives.
