Hi there!

I wanted to make a Jewel Tree, but then decided it could be so much more... Modular pencil based design! I love wood, I love hexagons, I love pencils. It just made sense. The idea is to keep improving the design to enable you to build many different things using pencils.

I like the mechanical properties of pencils, they are very affordable and easy to obtain. I am using H2 pencils, which seem to be standard sized at the stores I sourced them, but your results may vary. I suggest you to print a single model first to scale accordingly to the pencils you have available. The pencils I found are 7mm side to side. I even did some research and found this on Wikipedia:

A standard, hexagonal, "#2 pencil" is cut to a hexagonal height of 1⁄4-inch (6 mm), but the outer diameter is slightly larger (about 9⁄32-inch (7 mm)) A standard, #2, hexagonal pencil is 19 cm (7.5 in) long.

I found the 7mm outer diameter to be accurate, but please test print before printing multiple models for your creations.

Example build: Jewel Tree! The ridged simple connector is to allow necklaces to stuck where you place them.

I plan to keep updating this model with more and improved connectors to increase the scenarios where it can be used.

All connectors include an inwards chamfer of 2mm to help with the process of assembling.

Initial collection:

Once connected, some glue might not hurt! =)

Enjoy and happy penciling!
