Description

!!!This project is a work in progress!!!

A 3D printer friendly replacement for the Bambulabs nozzle wiper on the X1 or P1P (I think, don't have a P1P so can't confirm).

Overview

I tried printing a lot of the other options on Printables for a replacement nozzle wiper (specifically a shorter one for using longer aftermarket nozzles) and had tons of issues with them just not being strong enough, no matter what orientation I tried printing them in. I either broke them getting supports off, inserting the screw, or after 1 - 3 prints. This model attempts to balance strength / longevity against enough springiness to still work properly and not damage your equipment.

I made a design that accounts for the limitations of printed parts more I think. I am running a prototype version in my printer right now and will continue to make updates as I learn.

Additionally I liked the idea of running a 2nd nozzle wiper that is a brass wire brush, so I added that as an option. This still needs experimenting with to find the sweet spot for size and height offset, etc.

Printing

I recommend printing it on it's exterior side wall (see picture) to get the best layer strength for the PTFE tube mounts. I use supports, you probably should too but I am actively working on a version that doesn't need / minimizes supports (you might notice the 45 degree angles in the model). I used slim tree supports with probably the recommended settings from OrcaSlicer. I'm currently printing it in PAHT-CF but I'm not sure filament choice matters so much as it is reasonable strong and not very brittle. ABS, PETG, PA, PLA all seem like good options. PC probably not so much, but I have no idea.

Assembly

Right now you'll have to shorten the stock Bambulab PTFE wiper tubing by a mm or so, just use wire snips or whatever. I'm working on sizing the model correctly in the next version so no shortening is required.

BE CAREFUL WHILE CUTTING THE BRASS BRUSH!!! WEAR SEALED EYE PROTECTION AND GLOVES. THE BRASS FIBERS ARE VERY SHARP AND WILL GET IN YOUR EYE / GIVE YOU SPLINTERS!!!

You have to cut a wire brush down until you have a section that 3 bristly clusters wide. I used a dremel cutoff which I would not recommend unless you want yours quick and dirty like me. I super glued my brush into the brush holder mostly because I couldn't find my VHB (double stick) tape roll. Next version is going to work on having a pressure fit system.

Stock PTFE tube screw should work fine. The stock bottom mounting screw was too short for me (but you can shorten the mount in OnShape) so I switched to an M3 or M4 machine screw (can't remember now) and that seems to work fine, although all of this is just threaded into plastic so I fully expect this to get damaged eventually with lots of nozzle wiper swaps…maybe not…I hope not…

Customization

I'll upload models with various wiper heights for different types of nozzles. I am currently testing the MatterHackers BiMetal CHT Nozzle height version and it is working okay at that height. I have not tested the heights for a stock Bambulab nozzle or the AliExpress CHT or hardened nozzles so they may be off.

I am linking the OnShape project and am adding a suite of configuration options and inputs so you'll be able to tweak as much as you want if you us OnShape. If you tweak something and it works better, please let me know! I'll make the changes in the original project.
