Description

TLDR:  Just get the F360 file if you don't have the exact same part# and about a 24' aboveground pool.  Feel free to remix enhancements.

Use your preferred method of supports when printing obviously.

Long version:

I'm hoping to keep updating this as I iterate and hopefully improve on this thing which there must be millions of out there in the wild, rotting away in the sun.

I broke one of these when I opened this season and looked up the part number to get a replacement, although customizing these has been in the back of my mind since getting a printer about 6 months ago.  They are all cracked from years of abuse in four seasons and no love.  This one finally broke in two, leaving me with a topless pool.  Not the kind I prefer, either.

It seems to go by 16263 and requires a 16262 support piece also!  Various part numbers including 1174-3-4-5 show up on mine.  Each 16263 is $14.99 and so is a 16262.  My 24' above ground dinosaur of a pool (that came with the house) needs 18 of each for a full replacement.  For $540+ to have to eventually replace all of them, I put my engineering hat back on for an hour or two and fired up Fusion 360.

I started with just a replacement top with dimensions from the old part, just the top cap.  Then made it so the cap interacted with the hole reached by the support piece.  I have no idea if the way it's modeled it may interfere with smaller or larger diameter pools or different generations.  I tried to dimension a lot of things so modifications/remixes may be easier in F360.  I am very rusty and self taught in Fusion 360, except using some SolidWorks in my career years ago.  I'm not even sure this is the most logical way to model something like this.

Please fix and remix at your leisure.

For now I'm printing these in 10% infill PLA at 10x on my AnkerMake M5 draft settings ~ 3h print) and just seeing how I like them.  I realize for a long-lasting replacement that ABS or PETG should be used and probably some level of sealing/painting/whatever.  Also, you'll probably want to make it 100% infill no matter what you do.  The original part was injection molded I'd guess.

Problem is, it's just too convenient and seemingly cheap to just print one.

Again I'm hoping to update this with whatever I end up with, but if I don't, life got in the way.

Future enhancements to help with or dream up?

  • Some sort of drink holder or phone holder version (done).
  • Fillet the user-facing edges once solid (done, mostly).
  • Instead of above, some kind of bracket that holds attachments in with gravity only so you can quickly change from drink to phone mount, speaker, gopro bracket, whatever the kids are doing these days. (bracket system is done, mostly)
  • Attachment to grab a beach umbrella that somehow has a sister bracket further down and you could put the bottom in or a hole to put the umbrella in the vertical support?
  • LED lights or a swim noodle holder?

Print tips:

The cap itself should be oriented fine to print with some minimal supports.  Same with the cup holder.

Use 100% infill and in PETG or ABS for max life probably.

You'll want to lay down the phone holder so it sits on the largest face to print, which should be 60 degrees.
