Description
I recently added a NanoELS H4 https://kachurovskiy.com/ controller to my JETBD920N lathe. I already had a Z axis motor mounted for an ELS but needed to add a X axis motor. Maxim has a great design for a smaller Nema17 motor but I noticed a slight difference in the distance from x axis mounting bolts and the center of the x axis leadscrew. Our lathes are not the same. So either redraw his case or just mount the Nema23 motor I had sitting around.
I welded up the mount from 3mm steel and mounted it with existing screw holes with longer bolts. I used slight oversized holes to make for adjusting gear mesh. Need to make a cover to keep out chips but thats another day.
I printed a gear that press fits to the X axis and another gear to fit the stepper. I had to use a 4 to 3 ratio to make things work with a 60 tooth mod 1 gear on the top and a 45 on the bottom. The Nema 23 has more torque than the Nema 17 so the ratio seems to perform well.
Drawings for the mount for the x axis and the mounting plate for a Nema 23 motor for the Z axis are in the pictures.
Z axis pulleys and belts are listed below.
40 tooth XL pulley note. The inside diameter was bored to fit the end of the lathe lead.

The drive belt is a 180 XL.
Pretty lousy description but I'm off on another project.
Hope this is helpful are at least gives you and idea or two.
Cheers
