Description

This file is a watch band/strap replacement (for the side with the holes) for "Ironman Triathlon Shock WR 200M" and possibly similar watch models (please be sure to check your dimensions before printing).

Derivation:

The watch model it was made for is stamped with “691” and “W0” [image 7], which I believe is the exact model number, but information on this particular sequence is scarce and the watch is relatively old.

The 3D model is derived from the original watch band with some tweaks to make it print and function a little better in TPU. Aesthetically, it is a close match to the original.

Material / Printing:

I personally had some issues with the TPU getting folded/tangled in the filament path on the stock Prusa I3 MK3S, and ended up slowing way down (20-30 mm/s @ 0.2 mm) and disabling retractions to get a successful print -- your mileage may vary as this was my second time using TPU. The pictured band was printed in a mid-to-firm-hardness, no-name TPU from eBay with absolutely no branding information. It looked great after a small amount of debuirring (de-blobbing) with a craft knife.

Durability:

I had been wearing the pictured watch with printed band continuously for about 7 months without issue at the time the images were taken, and I am still wearing the band currently to this day (Feb. 2024-02-04). The watch has not been babied in any way and has been fully subjected to all abuses typical to a non-sentimental daily driver.

UPDATE: the watch fell in the line of duty 🫡 🫡 🫡 on May 2024-05-02, when the band's stainless steel pin ripped through the plastic receptacle on the watch body itself. Indeed, the printed TPU band outlived its host. The watch may be salvageable by inserting a stainless tube to receive the pin, but I have moved on to a replacement for now.

Note on Band Retainer:

If you are also making a watch band retainer (the little loop that holds the band in), I recommend trying out eSUN TPE – its elastic properties and printability are incredible and it has been holding up extremely well for me (TPU retainers tended to last a few months before delaminating). With the TPE, a simple 2-wall rectangle is able to be sized to the band rather than the clasp, as it is able to stretch to pass over the clasp.

Software:

The 3D model was originally made in DesignSpark Mechanical (free version), and I have included the .rsdoc file, which includes some things like the geometry/patterns used as cutters to form the holes and characteristic contours in the band (see the solids and patterns under the “cutters” group in the Structure window [image 8]). Unfortunately, CAD export is paywalled in DSM so I cannot produce a .step to share at this time.
