Update 7/27: Added v3.3 fan housing which moves the down angle from 20 degrees (v3.2) to 5 degrees to direct airflow more directly at the nozzle and less onto the bed. *Experimental*
Update 6/18: Added v3.2 model files. This version introduces a 20 degree angle to the air duct and raises the fans upward a bit. Please share your feedback!
Update 6/21: Raised the fans up another 2mm to more directly target the nozzle area. Testing seems to indicate a bullseye this time; working very well!
Description:
This is a remix of my v2 version that mounts the fan housing across the z wheels vertically. It simply sits in between the z carriages and does not require any screws for mounting. The second benefit is that the fans blow more directly toward the nozzle (and not nearly as much toward the bed as in v1 and v2 versions).
Benefits: Supports faster PLA printing by helping to retain quality, gives better overhangs and bridges, and it's cheaper than the Creality aux fan! WORKS BEST ON SMALL PRINTS, BRIDGES, and OVERHANGS. LARGER PRINTS MAY WARP if the fans are used too much.
This is a work in progress (beta) so feel free to remix or suggest adjustments!
STEP files are provided for higher resolution and work in most modern slicers.
Instructions:
The hooks fit between your z-axis wheels and the back metal frame. The fit is snug so that there is no vibration. Be patient, it will fit.
The 5015 fans mount inside with m3x18 screws and wire in parallel (red+red+red, black+black+black). Wire one side to your 24v power supply inside the printer, and the other end to the fans. I personally used a 4 pin pigtail about 6" long with quick-disconnect to supply the power to both my fans and the LED cobb strip (each on its own separate mosfet though). Also I used two 24v mosfet boards from Amazon (5v trigger/signal) to control fan speed and LED brightness from GPIO pins on my Orange Pi 3, running Klipper. Finally, I used this wire to run from the 4-pin pigtail to the power supply & Orange Pi.
