Description

Intro

A practical industrial-style brace designed to stabilize leaning and wobbling IKEA HEKTAR lamps. Features a wide reinforced base with structural ribs that prevent the lamp's pole from leaning and wobbling in any direction, integrated M3 bolt tightening points to secure the brace snugly around the pole, and a vertical cable pass-through slot for the internal power cord.

Details

Over time, two of my IKEA HEKTAR lamps became damaged at the base of their poles, the metal threads got completely chewed up and were no longer holding the poles straight. This was especially annoying during cleaning and dusting, and visually they looked rather decrepit.

During 2022-2023 there was a shortage of these particular lamps at IKEA, making a simple replacement impossible. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and DIY a solution to fix the lamps with a practical 3D print.

After careful measuring and sketching, I designed this brace with an industrial aesthetic that complements the IKEA HEKTAR's design without looking out of place.

The model features a wide reinforced base with structural ribs extending outward. These ribs physically support the pole from multiple directions, preventing leaning and wobbling, and keeping everything straight and stable. The brace wraps snugly around the pole at the top, and I incorporated holes for M3 nuts and bolts that tighten the brace around the pole, ensuring a secure grip that holds over time.

There's a vertical slot along the side for the power cord, since the IKEA HEKTAR lamp has the cable hidden inside the pole that is permanently connected to the heavy base with no way to remove it, this pass-through slot allows to attach the brace effortlessly.

Moving forward, I'm excited to observe how this 3D printed fix continues to hold up over time. I hope this fix helps extend the life of your IKEA HEKTAR lamps too.

Materials and Print Settings

For the original print, I used Prusament PLA, the only filament that was available at that time. Remarkably, even after almost 2.5 years of continuous use and regular cleaning, the original PLA print is still holding up well. However, I acknowledge that printing it in PETG or another stronger material would be an even better choice to ensure long-term durability.

All recommended parameters and settings are saved in the provided .3mf file, but adjust as needed for your setup.
