Printing Props Maker Coin

I created this maker coin to showcase several techniques for my book, Printing Props: A Beginner's Guide to 3D Printing for Cosplay and Replicas. I am providing it here as a fun project for people to play with and modify.

Print instructions

The coin has two faces–e.g., no flat surfaces for a print bed–and many fine details, so this is meant for resin printers. You can split the coin in half to print is in two pieces with an FDM printer; however, many of the details may not print (with the provided STL) even with a 0.25mm nozzle. Some of the text is very small and thin. Use the provided STEP or F3D files to make adjustments for your printer and nozzle.

For resin printers, I had the best results printing the coin vertically with a small number of manual supports at the bottom of the coin. Keep support stems out of the braided edge for easy removal.

If you want to shave some print time, you can angle the coin, but be choosy about where you place supports to avoid negatively affecting the smaller details.

If you split the coin for FDM, no infill should be required. The coin is thin enough that the halves should be solid.
