Intro

C.lamp - is the clamp for your lamp! (or any other vertical 1 inch tube or pipe with a rough surface).

C.lamp is ideal for IKEA HEKTAR lamps, as they take up a lot of vertical space. Why not utilize that ample vertical space? With C.lamp, your lamp can double as a photo display or a nifty place to pin your To Do list. 

 

Design Philosophy

C.lamp is a multifunctional system, it transforms idle vertical space into something functional and intriguing. 

C.lamp system utilizes a clamp with a magnetic connector. This connector can seamlessly integrate with an array of magnetically attached attachments, bringing new possibilities to your living space. 

C.lamp system attachments:

  • Notes Board (3x1 or 1x1 layouts vertically or horizontally) for 3x3in sticky notes
  • Photo Frame for Kodak Instant photos 2.1" x 3.4".

Stay tuned for even more attachments and enhancements to the C.lamp system, including larger diameters for the clamp and varied shapes (dates are TBD as this is not a full-time project).

I invite you to tap into your creativity by using the C.lamp Magnetic Port STL files. Develop your own models and widen the range of C.lamp attachments for your personal use or to benefit others. Please note, associating C.lamp with NSFW models or displaying them in any form of media is strictly against the author's guidelines.

The potential is limitless, and I can't wait to see what amazing attachments you will create. Share your creations and experiences with the community and help C.lamp system evolve.

I personally use C.lamp Notes Pad every single day and it's been a tremendous help to always have reminders and tasks lists visible all day, and color coded Notes Pad Magnets help prioritize tasks and reminders lists, for example:

  • Orange Notes Pad Magnet for urgent tasks.
  • Blue Notes Pad Magnet for work tasks.
  • Green Notes Pad Magnet for personal reminders. 
  • Pink Notes Pad Magnet for health reminders. 

 

Color Schemes

C.lamp system's aesthetic appeal lies in its customizable color schemes. With primary and secondary colors at your disposal, the combination possibilities are endless. Default C.lamp system color scheme is:

  • Primary color: Prusament PLA Vanilla White (Prusament Signal White PETG)
  • Secondary color: Prusament PLA Prusa Orange (Prusament Prusa Orange PETG)

However, don't let convention limit your imagination. Experiment and go wild with colors that resonate with you and your living space's vibe. Choose from a plethora of color combinations and materials for 3D printing.

 

Functional Strength

C.lamp can hold quite some weight despite it's small size, so far it could hold 450g - 840g of weight without sliding down the lamp pole, failing or breaking down. At 1000g (max tested weight) C.lamp started sagging, but did not slide down and fail. The strength parameters for greater weights are currently being evaluated. As time permits, I will experiment more and add more data on how much weight it can hold, and update the model accordingly if needed. 

Keep in mind that heavier weights are not advised, as they can break your floor lamp pole or make it very unstable and the lamp may fall.

Feel free to share your feedback on the tested weights or functional strength of the 3D printed model, I will use that data to improve the model and the system.

 

3D Printing 

I used Prusament PLA for this print and it hold just fine, but I would still recommend using PETG to make sure that the C.lamp can hold better under much larger weights and under stress over time. Use more perimeters and top and bottom layers to provide more structural strength and flexibility.

  • Profile: 0.15mm (Quality)
  • Perimeters: 6
  • Top Layers: 8
  • Bottom Layers: 8
  • Top fill pattern: Concentric
  • Bottom fill pattern: Concentric
  • Infill: 30%
  • Infill Type: Gyroid
  • Supports: Everywhere or Enforced
  • Supports Type: Organic
Part 2 Parameters:
  • Profile: 0.15mm (Quality)
  • Perimeters: 4
  • Top Layers: 6
  • Top fill pattern: Concentric
  • Bottom fill pattern: Concentric
  • Bottom Layers: 6
  • Infill: 30%
  • Infill Type: Gyroid
  • Supports: Everywhere or Enforced
  • Supports Type: Organic
Part 3 Parameters:
  • Profile: 0.15mm (Quality)
  • Perimeters: 6
  • Top Layers: 8

  • Supports: Optional, but I got best results for the thread when printing with supports

C.lamp Assembly Instructions

 

Parts, Materials, Tools

  • 3D printed parts (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)
  • Round magnets 6x2mm (x6 for C.lamp, and x4 for each of the attachments)
  • Marker
  • Pliers (optional)
  • X-Acto knife (optional)
  • Prusa lubricant (optional)
  • Sanding paper (optional)
  • Super glue (optional)

Safety

  • Always put safety first!
  • Be extra careful when removing supports material and print imperfections as edges may be very sharp.
  • Do not press the magnets into slots using sharp objects that can slip on the magnet and hurt you.

Important Notes

  • Always make sure the polarity of the magnets is aligned properly to avoid repelling or issues with attachment.
  • Take care not to force any parts too hard as this can cause damage, especially if you're using a more brittle material like PLA.
  • All magnets are press fit, but if magnets don’t stay in slots secured, use a dab of super glue.

 

Step 1

Clean up printed Part 3 from the support material and any print imperfections.

Take 4 connected magnets (6x2mm) and mark the top one with a marker, insert connected magnets one by one into the slots at the base of Part 3, by pressing down on them and applying even pressure. Make sure not to  accidentally rotate magnets when inserting them (this is very important for the attachments).


Step 2

Take 2 connected magnets (6x2mm) and mark the top one with a marker (this is an important step).

Insert the unmarked magnet into the top slot of Part 3, make sure that the mark on the marked magnet stays on top. remove the marked magnet after unmarked magnet was inserted.

 

Step 3

Clean up printed Part 2 from the support material and any print imperfections. 

Take marked magnet from Step 2 and insert it into the slot at the base of Part 2, make sure that the side of the magnet that was marked with marker is facing inside the Part 2 and not outside.


 

Step 4

Clean up printed Part 1 from the support material and any print imperfections. 

Take assembled Part 2 insert it into Part 1 and slide it down towards the threaded hole.

Part 2 should slide up and down freely without any resistance. If there is some resistance or part gets stuck, clean up part, use sanding paper or trim imperfections in Part 1 or Part 2.

 

Step 5

Screw the Part 3 into the threaded hole at the base of Part 1.

Add a tiny bit of the Prusa lubricant onto the threads of Part 3 before screwing it in if it feels to tight to rotate.

Good job! C.lamp is now assembled!

 

How to Use

Press down the top of the C.lamp to the floor light pole and hold it.

Rotate the knob clockwise until the circular indicator on the side slides all the way forward into the Locked position to lock the C.lamp.

 

Hold the top of the C.lamp and rotate the knob counterclockwise until the circular indicator on the side slides all the way back into the Unlocked position to unlock and removed the C.lamp.

 

Important

Do not over tighten! This can break the threads or break the C.lamp and you'll need to re-print and assemble it again.

 

Assembling Other C.lamp Attachments

In the future, when more C.lamp attachments will be release by me, or created by the community by embedding C.lamp Attachment Ports into the other designs and models, you should follow the same instructions to assemble new attachments, to make sure that magnets polarity stays the same between different attachments.

 

C.lamp System Attachment Design Recommendations

All original C.lamp Attachments follow the “rule of 2mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm” for slots for magnets, walls, diameters, holes, corners, part thickness, etc. Please follow this simple rule when creating your own attachments to keep the aesthetics and seamless ecosystem of attachments.

 

Adding C.lamp Connector to Your Model

Make sure to use the right thickness, so 6x2mm magnets could be pressed into the port: 

  • Small (4mm)
  • Medium (6mm)
  • Large (8mm)
