Description

A Clip to keep the tape end free with tear-off ridge

2 parts, printable without supports

  • use »BigTeeth« version for a functional serrated tear-off ridge if you have a bigger nozzle/line width.
  • use »Blade-Heat-Insert« to heat insert a (saw) blade
    • A blade can also be glued (CA) below the normal versions

Works for clear tape, masking tape, painter tape, washi tape, electro tape, duct tape, plain paper rolls, sticky note rolls, double side tape, medical/surgical tape, metal foil tape or sticker/label tape.

(for sticker rolls when pulling the backing close to the ridge, the sticker will present at the window or can be rolled onto surfaces)

The Model (folder)

  • Normal - fine teeth 3 folder
    • Small roll or D=25mm (clear tape, washi etc.)
    • Medium roll or D=35mm (electrical, medical tapes)
    • Big roll or D=75mm packaging tape
  • Reverse - Roller in center position so tape is teared from the back.
  • Big teeth - all sizes but with bigger tear-off teeth. (for easier ripping and big nozzles)
  • Blade Heat Insert - all sizes but with a separated slit to allow heat insert (melt) a (saw) blade in.

Which size is right?

For perfect fit check the inner diameter of your roll, thickness and width.  Use script or comment what size is missing so i can upload it.

  • Inner diameter (D) of the tape defines the curvature and doesn't need to match exactly but should be as close as possible.
  • Width (W) should be 2mm wider than your roll, e.g. for 19mm tape use the 21mm model
  • Thickness (T) is how much tape (inkl. cardboard core)  is on your roll - should be equal or less than the space in the clip

After printing

  1. Clip the roller in the holder (add a tiny amount of lubricant on the fulcrum for smooth operation) - assemble in warm water to lower the risk of breaking.
  2. Now clip the holder onto your tape, make sure the tape end points from roller towards tear-off ridge. (except for the reverse Version where the cut is from the backside)
  3. You can either fold a flap or put the open end on the roller and rotate backwards to push the end through the gap.
  4. optionally you can sharpen the teeth with a file or sandpaper or glue a (saw)blade below. - printing on a flat surface (non-structured) with a good 1st layer will also result in sharper teeth. Heat inserting a blade works too.

Use

  • Hold the holder between thumb and index on the grip rails.
  • Now pull the tape radial upwards or over the roller backwards.
  • Tear off at the ridge or use a cutter/scissor
  • An open tape end will stay available for the next piece

optional you can use the roller upside down to directly adhere tape on a surface if you do longer stripes.

Examples

  • standard clear tape (green arrow - 19mm)
    • D 25  (grey - inner core diameter)
    • W21 (blue - the width of the spool + 2mm clearance)
    • T 8   (black - the spool thickness)

some custom electrical tape D30-W17-T15

Duct tape or masking tape on a big roll D75-W52-T15

Example for metal foil tape with backing the backing is thread below to separate and direct application “roll on”.
