Description
I made this model a few years back and posted it on Twitter ( https://twitter.com/Crafty_Modeler/status/1468148316781219840?s=20 ) It runs using the chassis and parts from the Bachmann Toby model. I have included a motor housing that cuts down the original Motor housing. the whole model is printed in 3 main parts. roof, top, and skirt. I also included some detailed parts, being a lamp based on the Bachmann toby model, Buffers, decorative coupling, and a bell.
I had difficulty finding good diagrams of the J70 tram engines. so by full admission, this design is not accurate. but I did what I could to make it look accurate. if you have access or know where to find diagrams of the J70s with measurements, let me know.
if you wish to make any remixes, I've included the Fusion 360 file.
Printing
when you print the model, You'll need the following.
1X Bachmann Toby Chassis (could be swapped out, let me know what you use if so)1X Top
1X Roof
1X Skirt
2X Lamp
1X Bell
4X Buffers
2X Decorative Couplings
I recommend printing the Handrail Guide for making handrails for each doorway.
Shell Assembly
take a screw that fits and grips into the 1.75mm holes in the holes of the skirt and top. you'll want to glue these parts along the front, back, and sides. watch to not glue the printing supports on the doorways and the ones inside the model.
once the glue has dried, use a blade to cut the supports.
use paper clips or 1mm wire to bend the handrails. on the front and back, bend small segments of wire to fit in holes in the front and back to be lamp irons. you can drill out a hole in the inside of the shell and put a wire similar to the lamp irons in it or glue the lamp part onto it. the lamp has a small hole on its back for a small peg.
the bell will go on top of the roof between two small 1mm holes for a bell. Cut one end of a paperclip and bend it to fit over the bell. along two holes diagonal from each other take a segment of a paperclip and bend it to fit in both holes as a pipe. for the two smaller holes on the bell side, take a thin wire or thread feed one end through a hole, wrap it around the bell or top of the paper clip once or twice, then feed through the other small hole. be sure to glue both ends.
feed a small paper clip through the buffers and cut it. leave extra on the end, it will act as a peg for inserting into the buffer beam of the skirt. also, insert the decorative coupling into the buffer beam.
Chassis/Motor housing Assembly
Print one of everything from the motor housing.
you should have two halves, two side panels with screw mounts, and the front and back decorative parts.
from the Bachmann Toby Chassis, you'll want the motor, lower gears, screws, shafts, and the chassis block.
assemble everything like the original chassis and screw everything back together. use the smallest screw to screw one end to the chassis like the original design.
this should leave you with a completed model. just paint it and add some thin clear plastic to the windows for glass.
