Description

If you've ever been in the same room as a Sovol SV06, you'll know that the stock PSU's fan is one of the noisiest parts on the machine. With this simple addition, you can make your printer much more pleasant to be around. It significantly reduces how loud the power supply fan gets, and as a bonus it requires no extra hardware.

I wouldn't worry about airflow being obstructed, as it's an exhaust fan. I've had no issues, even in an enclosure.

 

PRINT SETTINGS:

  • Material: Preferably PETG or ABS, PLA is untested but likely fine.
  • Infill: 10-15%
  • Supports: On
  • X-Y Hole Compensation: On the generous side
  • Perimeters: 3+

The model should be rotated upside down in your slicer, as your machine may not be able to print such large bridges.

 

INSTALLATION:

  1. Place 2-3 layers of electrical tape (or some sort of dampening material) as pictured below. This will stop the fan cover from creating more noise if it vibrates against the PSU.
  2. Remove one (but not both) screws from the PSU fan with a Philips-head screwdriver. Removing the top screw first tends to work better. Keep the other screw tight for the time being.
  3. Place the PSU Silencer and align the holes, making sure that it also lines up with the fan's mounting hole
  4. Attach the part using the screw you removed in Step 2. It should thread itself into the part, but make sure that it actually catches the threads in the fan. If it doesn't, it'll just fall off and you won't have a good time. 
  5. Repeat Steps 2-4 for the second hole
  6. Add an extra layer between the PSU and outside of the part (as pictured below) to hold it to the surface. This will further reduce noise.
