Description

This is my attempt to make a stand for the ROG Ally.

There are 4 versions:

  • simple stand i designed around my usb-c port repeater (usb hub, dock, or what ever you prefer to call it)
  • simple stand - plain version for better compatibility
  • stand with fan - designed it to sit on top of a 120mm pc fan
  • stand with fan - plain version for better compatibility

Additional info:

Regarding the dock: i used a Vention port replicator, it has several versions, with different port layouts, and there are a lot of different docks with similair size, and layout, so you can easily find one that fits. In my design there is a slot of 16.5mm by 45.5mm. that's filled loosely by the Vention port replicator. There are a lot of docks that can fit he space, but if you need a different size, feel free to contact me.

Regarding the fan version: you can use any 120mm pc fan you want, i modified a regular 12v fan to run from a free usb port, but there are plenty of cheap fans out there that are designed for the 5V provided by the usb. I used 4pc of 35mm by M3 screws with some washers to mount the fan with the stand. The screws go directly to the thicker end of the legs. the other end has a 4mm hole so you can use a rubber fan mount to avoid the legs sliding around.

I've done some testing to see if the fan has any effect on performance, or temps. I did not find the temps to be lower, or the clocks to be higher, but the back side, and the screen of the device was significantly lower. in example: cpu is 100% load and at 95c for 10 mins, and the top middle part of the screen was about 47-48c. with the fan turned on it went down to 42c on the same spot after an another 10 mins with 100% load. that is with a 12V fan running on 5V from the usb, so it's more of a gentle breeze. having a more powerful airflow might have a bigger impact on temps.

If you have any question feel free to contact me. enjoy :)
