Description
This is a scleral lens (hard contact lens) insertion tool. Designed for my mother who has a rare form of macular degeneration and double cornea transplants. Scleral lenses can be difficult to insert due to their size, shape and need to be clocked properly on the eye. There are “medical grade” tools that exists for this but they cost around $300-$500 USD and that feels wrong to me. My mother created her own "proof of concept' out of dollar store materials and I took it and made it from scratch. It is designed to be mostly waterproof. Devices that make someones life easier should be accessable and and cheap if not free. Im am not very well versed in electonics so any input is greatly appriciated to help refine the design.
The electronics inside are easily sourced from Amazon and cost under $20. Soldering is advised but not required. All parts are linked below. The LED will require diffusion as it will be too bright, I sanded the round tip off the diode and applied masking tape two layers thick. The LED should be sealed against the body of the device with hot glue or super glue gel.
Massive thanks to the two modelers I remixed to create this.
