Description

Let your Louvre Light shine. While mapping out Paris on my daughters ceiling, with the main landmarks printed in white to sit on the street map, I decided it needed a proper light. One that is as close to the real thing as I could make it. So I methodically created a model that matches all the panes and supports of the main pyramid at the Louvre.

Print instructions

This project requires a lot of printed pieces and a bit of cleaning up with a hobby knife. You'll also need to cut some plexiglass to glue the pieces onto.

When you have all the pieces smoothed out for a perfect geometric fit, you'll need to carefully glue them onto the plexiglass. I found that a few dots of Elmers Glue to lock them perfectly in place on some cardboard made the mounting of the plexiglass easier.

After you have 4 perfect triangles, you'll need to glue them all together in the pyramid shape. Getting a perfect square requires creating something like a cardboard square to hold them all together while lining up all the edges. I found that using a fair amount of tape to pull things together helped a lot.

Once you have your pyramid, it's time to glue your 8mm X 3mm neodymium magnets to the mounting brackets, then glue the mounting brackets onto the corners of the pyramid.

For the light itself you'll simply need a 12" X 12" square of sheet metal from Home Depot. Mount whatever small simple light you have onto this square and mount the square to the ceiling. Don't forget that this is plastic after all, so use LED bulbs that don't build up much heat.
