This was designed for use during rehabilitation of a stroke patient who had reduced mobility of the arm and wrist along with pronounced pronation of the forearm. The mug has two adaptations:
- The mug only needs to be tipped 45 degrees to drink all of the liquid.
- The handle shape makes it easier to hold with pronation of the forearm.
Printing and Usage Tips:
- Print with 0.15mm layer height and 6 perimeters. This ensures that it is water tight and adds a decent amount of mass to the feel when held, but it does result in a fairly long print time (~17 hours on my Prusa Mini+).
- The model is left-handed. Mirror the model in your slicer if you need a right-handed cup.
- Use PETG to allow the cup to be put in the top rack of a dishwasher. Only use PLA for cold beverages (PLA should be hand-washed only).
- As with any 3D printed container for food or beverages, it is a good idea to disinfect it periodically with a diluted bleach solution.
I hope this helps others in their recovery.
