Description

This is a very simple mount that makes it possible to mount a Wyze Cam V3 onto the glass lid of a Bambu Lab X1C or P1S.

Background

Since the Bambu Handy application on my phone seems to never want to load the P1S camera view (or takes multiple minutes to finally load the camera), I went looking for a way to get a different camera added to the printer. Considering the inside volume is almost entirely taken up by the travel volume of the print head, the only avenue from which I could approach this problem is to have a camera looking through the glass lid.

This came with its own challenges. It's no secret that these machines shake violently during high speed printing, so just setting a camera on top didn't work well. The printer is also in an occasionally well-lit room so reflections off of the glass lid obscured the picture somewhat.

I designed this simple mount and hood so that I could friction-fit, with no adhesive or hardware, a Wyze Cam V3 on to the lid of my P1S. I printed the mount out of VoxelPLA PLA+ and the hood out of California Filament Black PETG and they both fit snugly enough to hold in place.

The view, as seen in one of the pictures above, is not perfect. There are still some reflections and the view of the bed during the first layer is incomplete and often obscured by the print head. These are both things that, in my opinion, are minor compared to the official phone app not loading the camera half of the time.

Print settings

  • Material: Use something dark and opaque for the hood, but otherwise any material should work.
  • Settings: 0.20mm layers, 3 or more perimeters for strength, any infill percentage.
  • Supports: Not necessary.
  • Bed Adhesion: I personally printed with a 5mm brim since there is not a lot of contact area for either model, but it should print fine without one if your first layer is properly tuned.
