Airtight Coffee Bean Container

Introduction

I am a huge coffee lover. I brew my own V60 and espresso, so I need to store coffee beans so that they don't lose their flavor.

The problem with containers that I've owned so far have all had the same problem. If you have a 500g container and you buy a 500g freshly roasted coffee bean bag when you're low. There's not enough room for the entire bag, so these containers have about 25% extra room to help with this problem.

Customization

I've included the Fusion 360 file, so you can customize the model. You just set inner dimensions, and the whole model rescales.

It also estimates the number of beans in grams and ounces that your container can hold. In the WeightGrams and WeightOunces user parameters.

Printing

Filament:

  • a food-safe PLA or PETG
  • a piece of 1.75mm TPU long enough to fit in the groove at the top of the container

Print them as they are oriented in the STLs.

The model doesn't require supports, even if the coffee bean logo is a bit inset. Otherwise, you can also print with supports from the logo. It releases super easily.

To ensure airtightness, you should print with 5 perimeters.

I tried printing with adaptive layer height, but the sides didn't look as clean as I wanted, so be wary of this feature.

Warning

Whether or not this is considered food-safe, I cannot say. Use the model at your own peril.

If you are worried about the food safety of your 3D print, I would recommend that you paint the surface that will be in contact with the food with a food-safe resin.

Assembly

Superglue a piece of TPU in the groove at the top of the container. This part will never be in contact with the beans.

That's it. Happy brewing.
