Description
My first 3D printer was a CTC generation 2 clone of MakerBot ‘The Replicator Dual’, circa 2012. It died a little while back and has since been replaced with a Prusa i3 MK3S+. Not one to waste any bits, I disassembled/broke down the 3D printer into component pieces, looking for inspiration for a project - one made mainly from these bits.
And I came up with the Roverling 1. I’m attempting to make a wheeled platform, mainly from these bits, that can be used in a multitasking environment and for further development. I was designing and making it on the fly so I didn't have an overall picture or plan.
The basic design consists of 4 independently driven wheels using stepper motors and uses differential drive to steer (untested).
I've also developed companion Python code so you can easily easy control via a standard model RC receiver.
I used Prusa silver PLA with 100% infill for the corner sections and motor mount, generic PLA for wheels and generic FLEX for the tyres.
