Description

The “real” Volkswagen counterparts to these models have a propensity to spontaneously vanish from the vehicle, due to aging plastics and a harsh, vibration- and wind-heavy environment. I have literally never seen an actively-driven 1988-1993 Cabriolet that actually has these pieces in place, but the parts are real and do exist!

This model was recreated by hand from measurements taken from the one real VW equivalent I have ever come across. It has has tighter rear “clips” than the original, so it shouldn't fall out quite as easily. But if it does… you can always print more!

Update 2025-11-27: It has been noted that this piece, under the right circumstances (hot days, rough roads, etc.) usually ends up falling out of the hole, regardless of the size of the clips. This is probably why so many vehicles are missing it; it seems likely that the original part had the same issue. I have resorted to using a small amount of windshield sealing urethane around the barrel of the part to increase the likelihood that it will stay in place; I recommend you do the same. You could even use “sticky tack”, used for mounting lightweight objects on walls around the home. Ensure that whatever you choose to use allows the part to be removable when you want it to be, since it covers up a screw that must be removed in the event the grille itself needs to be removed or replaced.

Filament shown in the picture is Canadian Filaments Black PLA, which actually comes out a little bit satin extra-dark grey - a lovely match for the grille that this snaps into.
