Description
Hey team,
I find myself referencing back to the trusty 3D printing handbook fairly often as I'm new to this hobby, and thought it fitting the manual should have it's own storage location inside the Prusa enclosure so that;
This model was a little trickier than I anticipated to put together and I ended up going through five iterations until I was happy with the thickness, dimensions and shape of the ‘Connectors’ made available through Prusa Slicer version 2.6. I ended up slicing the model in half such that I could print with minimal overhang and give a fairly decent finish.
I chose to use Prusament PETG black for this model, and tried to replicate some of the chamfer angles of other enclosure components to make it look at home.
With regards to slicing and connectors, after quite a bit of experimentation, I had good luck with the following settings, any smaller, or tighter caused printing problems. I'll be using these settings for my future projects:
With regards to overall printing settings, I used the following modifications over the standard 0.30 mm DRAFT PETG settings:
With regards to support material, I put in place some support blockers on the female connectors so that they were clear of plastic. The support material I found wasn't required in this location and it make assembly easier once printed.
With regards to assembly once printed, I used a very small amount of glue around the perimeter of the holder to hold everything tight and then used two spare M3n nuts and M3x12 bolts to put the holder into position. A little tip here is to tighten the nuts into the part prior to mounting the holder so that the nuts stay in place, this'll make it a lot easier for installation.
I think it looks pretty sharp :-)
Enjoy
