Description
The original Timber wheels have a habit of tearing away from the hub over time. These replacement wheel hubs grip more of the tire and should prevent the issues in the future.
They also prevent the tire from rubbing on the landing gear.
Print with outer surface down, no supports (using no support version).
.2 or .3 layer height
1.2mm thick walls
1.2mm thick top / bottom
PLA or PETG.
Once printed, I used a soldering iron tip at 190c to open up the axel hole that is covered for easy-printing. A 3 mm drill bit also works.
The old hubs will need to be drilled out to get them off. What I did to do this was:
Mount a 1/2" spade bit into a vice. Place wheel on top of spade bit. Then use a ½" drill bit in a drill on the other side. The drill bit grabs the hub and spins it on the spade bit which actually drills out the hub. Be careful to not drill out too much of the foam, you only need to drill out the outer 1mm or so to cut the outer surface of one side away from the central part.
Once the old hub is out. Slide the tire onto the outer wheel half. Smear epoxy onto the peg of the inner wheel half. Then insert the inner wheel half into the outer wheel half and use a clamp to squeeze the wheel tight together. Let dry overnight.
I've only tested these for a few weeks but so far so good.
