Clip for IKEA Samla boxes (presses lid on, for a tight seal)

There are numerous designs out there of clips that secure the lid on IKEA Samla (Filament storage) boxes. But I could not find any that really presses the slightly overhanging lid onto the box to keep it as air tight as possible without a gasket. So I made one!

The specific improvement in my design, which was made from scratch but inspired by others, is a little step in the groove that holds the edges of the box and the lid. This allows the edge of the box to come about 1mm lower than the edge of the box.

For a really good seal on the typical 22L Filament boxes, I recommend 8 clips, with 2 on each side. Boxes can still be stacked when the lid is secured with this clips, but in that case you can have them on the smaller side only.

Print instructions

This part needs to be printed on its side, which does typically work without a brim, but I have seen the print fail occasionally, especially when there are a multiple parts on the print bed (simply as a matter of higher statistical likelihood).

It is of course possible and practical to use a brim, but removing the brim cleanly, especially on the tolerance critical inside of the clip, is a bit of a pain.

To guarantee your printing satisfaction, I have designed a specific brim, which is connected to the parts in only 6 very small points. This brim can be removed very quickly, easily and cleanly with a pair of sharp side cutters. No sanding required. The clip and the brim as one fused part is also available in the download section. I'd be interested to learn what you think about these kind of brims, so if you try it, please leave me short note with your feedback.

As material I have tested only PETG, which I always prefer for functional parts. Please let us know if you tested other material successfully.
